NEXTECH’S DATA INTEGRATION IS TOPS COMPLIANT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 27, 2010

September 27, 2010 – NexTech Systems Inc. today announced that NexTech’s data integration is TOPS Compliant.  NexTech can collect data for your participation in the TOPS registry.  TOPS is a HIPAA compliant, secure and confidential national database of plastic surgery procedures and outcomes.

Data entry is done from within the NexTech EMR using a technology called Retrieve Form for Data Capture, or RFD.  This technology allows the Case Form for TOPS to automatically populate with applicable data elements from NexTech EMR, reducing duplicate data entry.  By participating in the TOPS program, Physicians are able to earn TOPS AMA PRS Category 1 CME Credits™ and view their CME eligibility through three reports:

1.  CME Physician Report
The CME Physician Report allows you to review and print information regarding how many TOPS AMA PRS Category 1 CME Credits™ you are eligible for and how much you have earned.
2.  Risk Factors Report
This report allows you to view patient population high risk factors.  You can filter by a time period and a Procedure type (i.e.
Anatomy and Classification, CPT Codes, or All Procedures), and then select a Benchmarking Group from the dropdown menu to analyze specific data.
3.  Outcomes Report
The Outcomes Report allows you to identify trends in patient outcomes and compare outcomes against TOPS aggregate data.

“NexTech has been devoted to serving the technology needs of the Plastic Surgery community for the past thirteen years, and we are pleased to be the first and only Practice Management and EMR company to offer a TOPS compatible data integration.  We believe this integration will help our 3000+ Plastic Surgery client base easily track outcomes and ultimately aid in reporting and maintenance of certification requirements.” said Christina Majeed, NexTech’s Vice President of New Products and Technologies.

“TOPS is an initiative of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons.  For nearly a decade now, we’ve been committed to TOPS  as an integral part of our patient safety, monitoring and data reporting efforts.  The collaboration with NexTech is one more step in the right direction for accurate tracking of plastic surgery outcomes,” said Michael McGuire, MD, President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

About Tops
TOPS is a HIPAA compliant, secure and confidential national database of plastic surgery procedures and outcomes. TOPS was originally conceived in 1999 as a collaborative initiative between the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Launched in 2002, TOPS was designed to provide plastic surgeons with a mechanism to submit clinical and demographic information simultaneously into multiple confidential databases; minimize redundant data entry and provide valid clinical/practice information to plastic surgeons and their specialty. As an electronic database, case information is entered online or uploaded via physician practice management software. TOPS has become an integral part of ASPS efforts and is utilized in many of the organization’s key initiatives including the development of evidence based practice parameters, monitoring clinical outcomes and emerging trends, supporting research and educational programs, and the compilation of the National Clearinghouse of Plastic Surgery Statistics.

In October 2007 TOPS version 2.0 was released. The upgrades in 2.0 were designed to improve the program’s value to participants such as enhanced querying and benchmark reporting functions and improve the participant’s ease of use such as pre-populating fields and template options.
