Practice 2008 Terminal Server Configuration - Hardware Recommendations

The Practice 2008 system requires the following hardware and software when using Windows 2000 or 2003 Terminal Server Configuration (versus the client-server configuration).  By using the Windows 2000/2003 Server operating system in the Terminal Server configuration, you can use older PCs as terminals or workstations.  The number of colors is limited to 256, which should be adequate for practice management and word processing applications.  The Server carries the entire burden, so it must be powerful.  For more information about Microsoft Windows 2000 or 2003 Terminal Services, see http://www.microsoft.com

Please note that NexTech will support its Practice 2008 software.  Your local hardware consultant will support your hardware, Windows operating system, Terminal Services, network, MS Office, and all other installed software.  It is recommended that your support person by Microsoft Certified.  It is essential that all staff with no prior Windows experience enroll in a local college or CompUSA Windows and Word courses before installation.

***In order to properly run Terminal Services you are required by Microsoft to purchase CAL’s(Client Access Licensing) for both Terminal Services and basic Windows 2000/2003 server connectivity.  The number of CAL’s needed varies depending on the number of terminals/ workstations on your local network.

(Questions regarding CALs, please refer to Microsoft’s web page or contact you local computer consultant.)
