IntelleChart Flows Seamlessly Through Patient Exams
When Dr. Robert Benedett set out to start his own retina practice in Springfield, Mo., there was one certainty – his practice would implement Nextech’s IntelleChart.
Prior to Ozark Retina & Macula, Dr. Benedett was practicing at a larger network in the southwest Missouri area. For three and a half years, Dr. Benedett used a cumbersome EMR at this practice, but was unhappy with how the design really slowed down his staff, even during simple tasks. It was because of his poor experience with this EMR that led him to look for a new vendor when he decided to open his own solo practice. “The problem was you had to go through a bunch of clicks,” Dr. Benedett said. “The information was there, but it was buried and you had to go back and forth … it was really cumbersome to use and it was hard to go from screen to screen. You’re spending so much time looking at the computer … it takes away that personal connection between myself and the patient.”
“When we would finish up with a patient … often times it would change when the patient would have to come back. So the scribe would have to go through a whole bunch of pages just to change when the patient was coming back. That’s a huge deal because if that happens multiple times throughout the day, it can really slow things down.”
Fortunately for his solo practice, those kinds of inefficiencies became a thing of the past. Instead, patient exams have never been smoother.
“The thing I like about IntelleChart is how it flows through a patient exam. It’s really easy to use. You don’t need that much training to be able to use it. The way IntelleChart walks you through it is how we walk through our retina exams. It follows the way you see a patient instead of bending the way you see patients to fit into a chart. You can tell IntelleChart was designed by an ophthalmologist, someone who understands what we need.”
Software Upgrades Help, Not Hurt, Practice
Perhaps the biggest issues for Dr. Bernedett when he was using his prior EMR came during the software upgrades. Typically, an upgrade is designed to improve the system, but according to Dr. Bernedett, the opposite was true for his previous solution.
“Their own server would tend to break down a lot,” he said. “The updates would often make it worse, instead of making it better. That system would crash so much. Our IT guy would spend so much time trying to get the system back up. And when we would get updates, it would make things worse.”
In his new practice, Dr. Bernedett said the support with IntelleChart has been exceptional. Fortunately for him and his staff, their interactions with support have decreased dramatically thanks to the quality of IntelleChart’s software.
“The few times we’ve run into glitches, it’s been taken care of very quickly. IntelleChart is fabulous. The experience has just been totally positive.”
