Must-See Sights to Enhance Your EDGE Trip Blog Feature

agenda-pictureEDGE, Nextech’s first Annual User Conference, is less than two weeks away. We’ve planned three days and nights chock full of networking events, information-packed sessions and collaboration opportunities. Our expo hall will be filled with exhibitors aiming to improve your practice functions, and our product experts at our Innovation Station can help you fine-tune your workflow and answer your specific questions in detail. We will be rolling out several innovative features during the conference that we can’t wait to share with you. But let’s face it – a part of you is probably headed to EDGE to escape the cold, eat, drink and experience the Sunshine State during this ideal time of year.

If you are planning to extend your vacation before or after the conference, Orlando has something to offer for everyone. We’ve rounded up our favorite things to do to help you navigate your way around this bustling, sunny city to make your EDGE experience one you won’t forget.

If you want to spend time at Disney World

An obvious choice, the Disney theme parks are a must-see, and Nextech has negotiated discounted ticket prices for our conference attendees. Click here to nab tickets for a great deal, but be sure you get them before the discount runs out – February 24th at 9:00 pm EST.

Visit the classics at the Magic Kingdom, from the Pirates of the Caribbean to the Haunted Mansion. Thrill-seekers searching for a faster ride will love The Three Mountains: Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Splash Mountain.  Twilight Zone’s Tower of Terror and the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios also do a terrific job of getting the blood pumping. Got kids? Epcot’s new Kim Possible ride sends you and your little ones on a mission to save the world, and the Boneyard at the Animal Kingdom allows them to dig for dinosaur bones and slide down a two-story slide. Foodies can feast around the world at EPCOT, dining on Escargot in France, filling up on the Sultan Sampler in Morocco, grabbing a Lefse in Norway for dessert, and washing it all down with a German beer flight without even breaking a sweat.

There is so much do at Disney that we can’t even begin to pin down every sight to see and place to eat. The magic of Disney is that there is something for everyone, everywhere you go.

If you want to spend time outdoors

February in Florida boasts some pretty amazing weather – so why spend all your time indoors when you can spend it in the fresh air?  Practice your swing at one of the 170 golf courses within minutes from Disney’s Swan and Dolphin. If you’re feeling more adventurous, mingle with the state’s most notorious wildlife on an airboat ride along our swampy rivers. Admire the scenery from the sky in a hot air balloon, or for a real adrenaline rush, by jumping out of a plane at Orlando’s many skydiving locations. If water sports is your pleasure, take things up a notch with flyboarding and jetpack rides.

If you want some retail therapy

Whether you are looking to splurge or want to find a steal of a deal, Orlando is a shopper’s paradise. Bust out the plastic at The Mall at Millenia or The Florida Mall, where you can find any store you want, from Apple to Gucci to L’Occitane. If you don’t want to break the bank, head over to one of Orlando’s three major outlets, featuring designers from around the world at deep discount prices. Souvenirs are never hard to find, and you don’t even have to leave the EDGE Conference hotel. The Swan and Dolphin resort has many shops where you can purchase anything from original paintings to Disney miniatures. Downtown Disney is a short stop away, where you can find over 30 retail stores with unique merchandise for everyone on your list.

If you want to wander off the beaten path

alligators_2Believe it or not, Florida is home to several wineries, with a few in the Orlando area. Sip on award winning wines made with traditional Florida grapes as you take a tour of the vineyards. If you want to step into the strange and unusual, take a tour of Ripley’s Believe It or Not Odditorium, housing 10,000 square feet full of shrunken heads, vampire killing kits and other oddities. Even the outside of this museum is unusual as it seems to be sinking into the ground. If you get hungry, the “World’s Largest Entertainment McDonalds” has typical Micky D’s fare along with fancier pastas, paninis and desserts. Kids will love this mecca of entertainment with an upstairs arcade and a three story playground. And of course, no real trip to central Florida would be complete without a visit to Gatorland in Kissimmee, where you can zipline over a pit of live, hungry alligators and try your hand at mud wrestling with these toothy reptiles.

There are so many things to see and do, both at EDGE and around town that this list barely even begins to scratch the surface.
