API stands for Application Programming Interface. An API makes it possible to securely connect different software apps to facilitate the exchange of information.
As a patient of a provider using a Nextech EHR you can utilize the Nextech APIs to connect your personal health information to an application of your choice. You can choose what information to release to the apps you choose, and you can revoke this access at anytime you wish to do so. Management of application access to patient records will be done through your MyPatientVisit patient portal. If you do not have a patient portal, you will need to sign up for one in order to share your information to an app.
To utilize an app of your choice the first step is to check the app to see if the app has a connection to the Nextech APIs today. You can do this by visiting the app website or signing into that app to see if they have Nextech listed as a connection. You will need to know which version of the Nextech software your provider is using: Nextech NexCloud/Select, IntelleChartPRO, or SRS Pro. You will choose to connect through the appropriate software version for your provider’s office.
SRS patients will access their information through the InteliChart Patient Portal. Please follow the same steps as above to connect to the app of your choice.
We will update the list below as new apps are added to our list of connections, so you can check here first. We will periodically update this list, however you should check the app website directly before requesting connection through your provider.
If the app is not already connected to Nextech’s APIs you can communicate directly with your healthcare provider to request access to the application. Your provider will contact Nextech to initiate access to the app. The app will be screened for security and if the app meets requirements a connection will be made and you will be able to access your MyPatientVisit data from the app.
To access the app you will enter your MyPatientVisit portal credentials in the app and grant access. You will have the ability to revoke access to the app at any time in the future through the patient portal.
Providers will also be able to connect to SMART on FHIR apps to assist in disease management, data visualization, patient engagement, population health management tools, and other practice support functions. Discover the wide range of apps available here »
Providers with application development knowledge can also develop their own apps using the documentation found on this page.
Once your request has been fulfilled you will be able to logon to any app that you wish to use in the SMART on FHIR app gallery. You will be able to use these apps to manage a single patient, selected patients, or your entire panel of patients.
In our EMRs you will also be able to click on a button to open a 3rd party app. Any apps that have been approved to use the Nextech APIs will show in a list that will launch this patient’s information in the app.
To request access to the APIs for your own use, or subsequent to the request of a patient to connect to an app of their choice, please fill out the form.

We will continue to support our STU3 APIs, however we recommend that all new projects utilize the FHIR r4 APIs, as these will be the best supported in the future and will contain more endpoints in the future with the expansion of USCDI.
No applications have yet requested to connect to the Nextech APIs. As new apps become available we will list them here.
If you wish to connect with an app of your choice and it is not listed here please let your provider know the app that you wish to connect with. You provider will contact us to work together to connect to the app that you want to use.
For practices that have activated their FHIR services, the FHIR Base URL can be found by downloading the machine-readable list as a CSV file below.
