National Intern Day is a special occasion the Nextech team celebrates with great enthusiasm. Our internship program continues to provide valuable opportunities for young professionals to grow and develop their skills. Each intern brings a unique perspective and skill set to our team, contributing to the success of our organization.
National Intern Day falls on July 25 this year. Launched by WayUp in 2017, the holiday gives employers all over the country the opportunity to show gratitude to the incomparable interns on their teams. This special day shines a spotlight on the challenges and learning opportunities encountered by new professionals, sparking increased support for internship programs and development of the interns themselves.
The 11th cohort of interns at Nextech has seamlessly integrated into the realm of healthcare software, actively contributing to projects that drive business growth and client satisfaction. These talented individuals have brought innovative ideas, high energy, and creativity to their teams. Their dedication and hard work have not only enhanced our projects but have also fostered a collaborative and dynamic work environment.
After the completion of the program, interns have been consistently offered opportunities to advance into full-time positions at Nextech to further grow and nurture the seeds they've planted during the summer term.
There are examples of going from intern to full-time employee across the organization, including Brittany Tower, former marketing intern turned Client Success Manager. During her internship, she worked with Demand Generation for six months, then Events and Trade Shows for another six months. "I felt really valued throughout the entire journey. I loved the marketing team; they were so nice and welcoming. I also went to EDGE, and it was such a fun experience," Brittany said.
By recommendation of her manager, she spoke with client success about a future role in the company. Sure enough, she was hired as an Associate Client Success Manager and was promoted two years later. "I had no experience with making calls to clients when I started, but the team was very encouraging when training me. I have been with Nextech for 5 years now, and a big part of me staying was the team. I think the company culture here is amazing."
Karla Mercado, People & Culture Systems Specialist, also began her journey at Nextech as an intern, supporting the talent acquisition team. After her internship extension, she went on to become talent coordinator, senior talent coordinator, then transitioned into her current, more data-oriented role. "Before Nextech, I had no formal experience in HR. I didn't know about resume reviews or the pre-screening process. When people see that you're willing and ready to learn, it makes all the difference, especially in a company like Nextech where everyone is willing to teach you," Karla said.
Her advice to current interns is simple: be a sponge and absorb everything around us. "Say yes to everything! It's been a great journey going from project-based tasks to filling in the team needs. You can learn everything and figure it out on the way. Nextech is a nurturing environment that will support you through everything. It's a great place to be!"
Nextech Summer Intern Cohort 2024
Our six stellar interns this summer have been completely immersed into the medical software industry and learning the ins and outs of Nextech's operations.
Connor Kennedy works with the Software Engineering team. He has been enjoying his time at Nextech, diving into new things every day. "By the end of my first week, with help, I had already submitted a pull request to the dev branch," He says. "The team is fantastic and always willing to help with any questions I have. It's refreshing to be trusted to self-start and contribute — I feel less like an intern and more like a real team member. This motivates me to push myself to learn and improve continuously. I'm excited for July and the rest of the summer to keep growing as a developer here at Nextech.”
Hannah Celian works with the Marketing team. In the past few weeks, she's learned much about copywriting and editing. "I've been able to write case studies, testimonials, and more. Getting experience on the PR side of things has been so interesting," Hannah says. "I've also been able to make blog posts. Seeing my name on the byline makes me feel so included and valued on the team. I almost feel like a journalist! I am so grateful for the constant encouragement and trust I receive from my team here."
Hannah Chu works with the Professional Services team. Her position at Nextech is her first experience in the healthcare technology industry, and she is happy to have been received with open arms. "I've learned that it really does take a village — everything that we do, especially in my department, relies on teamwork. I have loved being able to meet and work with so many different people from different backgrounds," Hannah says. "Over the past few weeks I've been able to work with platforms such as Salesforce and Power BI, which is a first for me. I've also been able to jump in and participate in many team meetings, giving me a much better feel of collaborative dynamics and project workflows. I'm super excited for what the rest of the program has to offer this summer, and I can't wait to keep learning more!”
Matthew Levin works with the Practice+ Development team. This is his second internship with Nextech, having previously worked as a quality assurance automation intern. An important factor in his return was the company culture. "All my co-workers have been great, and everyone is very welcoming and helpful. I am loving the program so far," Matthew says. "I have learned so much about web development in the role I've been placed in, specifically about middleware and the importance of having robust, reliable, and secure code. Overall, my team is like a big family, and I really enjoy it.”
Melissa Woods works with the Product Management team. She was very pleased with how welcoming her team was and felt integrated into the work very quickly into the program. "I've been getting exactly the kind of hands-on research experience I've been looking for," Melissa says. "I've gotten exposure to customers and subject matter experts and more understanding of the pipeline of how research with these users generates insights that allows Nextech to continually refine and improve their products.”
Zaria Cromartie works with the People & Culture team. Since joining Nextech, she has felt inspired and encouraged by the collaborative environment she's experienced. "It has been incredibly rewarding, and my favorite aspect of this role has been diving into my project — conducting research, synthesizing ideas, and collaborating with team members," Zaria says. "The company culture at Nextech is truly exceptional; it fosters a sense of community and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects and work alongside such a dedicated team has been the highlight of my internship so far.”
At Nextech, our internship program is designed to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants to gain worthwhile, real-world experience and make meaningful contributions to our operations. We recruit interns for various departments and offer informative sessions to help them understand how different teams collaborate within our organization.
