The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in widespread disruptions across multiple industries, including healthcare. Companies and organizations have had to pivot focus and reinvent traditional approaches to longstanding processes in order to adapt to sudden changes. Eating out in restaurants has been replaced by food delivery. Classrooms have been replaced with online distance learning. The doctor’s office has been supplemented with telemedicine, remote monitoring and virtual visits.

What is Direct Messaging? Direct Messaging is an integrated feature of Nextech, offered by our third-party partner Secure Exchange Solutions (SES). Secure Exchange Solutions is part of the Direct Trust Bundle, which is wrapped up in the MACRA requirements for interoperability. In Stage 2 of Meaningful Use, we saw the introduction of the Health Information Exchange requirement. Modified Stage 2 brought further implementation of the measure, requiring that a patient’s summary of care be sent electronically 10% of the time for all transitions of care, however eligible providers (EP’s) could be excluded if they transitioned less than 100 patients out of their care in the given reporting period. Moving forward under MACRA, the emphasis is no longer on meeting a specific threshold, but rather, encourages eligible clinicians (EC’s) to utilize the functionality for Health Information Exchange as much as possible.

Last week we held a webinar designed to assist your practice in its Meaningful Use attestation process. Unsurprisingly, many of you had several questions regarding Meaningful Use as we understand that this can be a complicated process. To help make your attestation process easier, we've answered the most frequently asked Meaningful Use questions and have split it up into a four-part series. Our hope is that this can be a resource for your practice moving forward in your Meaningful Use attestation, no matter which stage you're currently at.

Late yesterday afternoon, the long awaited day finally arrived when CMS officially announced that the proposed rules regarding Meaningful Use, originally announced back in April of this year, are final! The changes do not alter the calculation of the measures so no software update is needed for 2015 attestation reporting. Here's how the latest news from CMS will affect you and your practice.
